If you’ve ever had moisture issues in a house, then you know how a high humidity level in your house can cause problems.

Inside a typical house 10 to 50 liters of moisture is released every day. Humidity levels over 40% can create air-quality problems, including water and ice forming on the inside of our windows, staining on walls and ceilings, peeling paint, mold growth and odors.

While energy-efficient homes work to minimize air leaks, it is important to ensure adequate ventilation. This is why well-constructed; air tight homes will also include a number of mechanical ventilation systems. Fans, heat recovery ventilators and air exchangers on heating systems can eliminate problems associated with high humidity levels by controlling how air gets into, around and out of your home. All of these systems work together to circulate the internal air to maintain an even room temperature, as well as expelling unwanted moisture and other pollutants.

One of the most critical features to maintain the correct balance and reduce moisture build-up inside a home is to properly use your home’s heat recovery ventilator (HRV).
